Rebecca Fowler, Wellness Coach

Did you know that Ourlife offers FREE coaching (via phone or email) with your online purchase of OurSkinny Mini Meals?
Ourlife’s Wellness Coach, Rebecca Fowler, came to us by way of Nashville, Tennessee. In addition to a degree in Diatetics, she has over 9 years of experience in the field of nutrition and an alphabet soup of letters behind her name: ACSM/NSPAPPH, PAPHS.*
*That means that she’s been certified by the American College of Sports Medicine to practice in the field of Public Health.
Rebecca is one of the most important people in all we do, and so we sat down with her to talk about common problems and issues getting started on the program:
What is the most common challenge your clients face, and what is your advice to them?
I hear it everyday: “I don’t have time.” We are all busy, and whether it is taking care of children, husbands, sick parents, or commitments made to friends, there never seems to be enough TIME. Of course, OurSkinny was designed with this complaint in mind. It doesn’t get any easier. Regardless, I always remind people, losing weight is a choice you make. It is extremely important to prioritize yourself and your needs in order to have success. It’s hard to do sometimes, but if you have a family, they will benefit a happier, healthier you. And healthy choices at the grocery store means healthier opportunities for them as well.
Why do you feel that coaching is an important tool in a weight loss program?
Coaching provides you with a reliable support system. Research has proven that those working on weight loss are more successful when they have a good support system – and accountability is everything. Not that you have to answer to me, but having someone celebrate your success in the week you lose your 60th pound is just as important as having someone give you a kick in the pants when you eat Mexican food 3 nights in a row.
What are your top three tips for patients when they have hit a roadblock or plateau?
- Add variety: if you are doing the same thing over and over, you will become restless and give up. Search for new recipes, make your own up, or ask your coach! Change up your workout routine every 6-8 weeks to give your body some new momentum.
- Don’t beat yourself up: sometimes clients will get upset with just a single pound of weight loss. I always want to say: “Hey! You worked hard for that pound!” So you had a slice of pizza. Don’t dwell on it. Just pick right back up at your next meal with a healthy choice.
- Keep on trucking: if you hit a plateau and get stuck at the same weight for a few days, don’t give up! Add some variety into your routine and before you know it those numbers will begin trending in the right direction again.

Keep on Fighting!
How does being a Wellness Coach help you with your own fitness and health goals?
I try to practice what I preach. My weight loss journey is something I constantly work on and I am always striving for better. I talk to people who are fighting the same fight on a daily basis, of course, and that motivates me to continue my hard work.
Who first inspired you on your weight loss journey?
My motivating icon was my personal trainer in Tennessee. She brought out my passion for exercise and taking care of myself.
Thanks to her, I pushed myself harder than I ever knew I could, did things I never thought I would be able to, and was able to take it to another level. She taught me to be healthy not just for me, but for my future husband and family, so I can run circles around them at 80!
Finally the best question, what foods do you depend on when managing your weight?
Well, I do not believe in depriving yourself forever, but moderation and portion control are a necessity in reaching (and maintaining) your goals. I always want to choose foods that are high in protein and low in carbohydrates and fats. My favorite things are the OurSkinny Lemon Razzy shakes and the OurSkinny Peanut Butter & Jelly bars. I just can’t live without them right now.
Such great advice and we are so lucky to have her on our team. If you are looking for that program that can provide you the health, nutrition, and support you need to accomplish your goals, Ourlife can help. You can call Rebecca Fowler at 912-354-4687 to schedule a coaching appointment. She available Monday through Friday from 8am to 6pm.
